In Support of the Ukrainian People
People throughout our town have been organising donations and rallying in support of Ukranian refugees – showing once again the level of support and compassion that exists in our town for refugees and people seeking asylum.
Your local Labour councillors have consistently opposed the Conservative government’s Nationality and Borders Bill, and at the Full Council in July 2021, the Labour Group introduced a motion restating our commitment to be a town that is welcoming to all.
On 4th March in her Observer column, Leader of Hastings Borough Council, Cllr Kim Forward wrote:
“We have all been stunned and horrified by the news of the invasion of Ukraine. As we hear the distressing stories and watch the shocking images our thoughts are with all those affected. We stand in support of the Ukrainian people.
As a City of Sanctuary, we will continue to welcome and support any refugees who come here and help them to integrate into the community.”
