Hastings and Rye

Constituency Labour Party

Author: Hastings and Rye Labour

The election results are in – you can find them on the Hastings Borough Council website.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted Labour, across the town and in every ward. These elections returned a mixed result with Labour holding onto the five seats we lost last year – an incredible achievement, particularly in St Helens and Old Hastings where there were huge swings away from the Conservatives and Greens to our Labour candidates. Sadly though we lost three seats this time to the Greens in Tressell, Central St Leonards and Gensing, which means that although Labour still holds 15 out of the 32 seats on the council, Hastings Borough Council is now in NOC (no overall control). Hastings and Rye CLP and the Labour Group of councillors on both Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council are committed to continuing to work for the people of the town and although we are sad to say goodbye to some dedicated people, we are excited to welcome new faces and for the trust that so many people in our town have put in Labour’s message and vision.

A special thank you to everyone who helped with our campaign and also congratulations and our thanks to:

A massive thank you to Peter Chowney the man with the encyclopedic knowledge about local government, rules and regulations matched with a incredible socialist passion to improve the lives of all that live in Hastings. Peter sadly announced his political retirement before this year's elections to explore his many other passions. Thank you for your service as Tressell Councillor, Cabinet member, Deputy and then Leader of our great town as well as famously only 346 votes short of being our MP.
Thank you to Kim for your 14 years' service for the residents of Gensing, on the Council, and within the Labour Group. Mother, Grandmother, friend, comrade,Gensing Councilor, County Councillor, Cabinet member, Deputy and then Leader of Hastings Council through the Covid pandemic Kim has shown herself to be an unwavering champion for the town and the Labour party and we wish her all the best. Thank you Kim for your incredible energy and effort for all the candidates during the election and your years of public service.
Thank you Ruby for all your hard work over the past four years: Deputy Mayor, older persons champion, committed socialist and strong advocate for the residents of Central St Leonards especially those who are struggling to cope with the cost of living rise. Ruby thank you for your service and commitment to the Labour group and we wish you all the best.
Thank you to Phil Scott, who retired this year as a borough councillor, for your years of incredible service to the Hastings Borough Labour group, the people of Wishing Tree and the Council. We know you're continuing to represent Labour and the residents of Hollington and Wishing Tree at the County Council but its important to thank you publicly from all the Labour family.

Thank you to Kenan Hakko, Conquest candidate, for your dedication to your campaign and for promoting our positive Labour message to the voters of Conquest ward.
